History

Milestones Through the Years

Dura-Line provides pathways for connection. Conduit manufactured by Dura-Line’s 20 manufacturing plants are buried underground, strung from utility pole to utility pole, and tucked away within the walls and ceilings of buildings. Dura-Line’s high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe is primarily used in two ways: the telecom industry and for natural gas distribution. In the telecom industry, conduit protects fiber optic cables on which computers, laptops, cell phones, and tablets depend. And, for natural gas distribution, the conduit provides a safe, durable pathway for natural gas.

So, at Dura-Line we don’t run the world, but our pathways make running the world possible. Dura-Line creates what connects us. Dura-Line’s products are designed to provide for fast and safe installation of mission-critical communication networks, power cables and pressure pipe for a wide variety of markets. Serving the telecommunications, enterprise networking, transportation, electrical, and natural gas markets, Dura-Line is an ISO-9001 and TL 9000 manufacturer of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit.

ISRS Certification for North Salt Lake, UT, ELyria, OH, Gravenhurst, Canada, PlantS

Representing more than 35 years of accumulated best practice experience in safety and sustainability management, the ISRS certification procedure reviews the entire management system including risk management, environmental aspects, the health and wellness of employees, and an overall assessment of management as a whole process. According to DNV-GL’s website, “ISRS is a world-leading system used to assess, improve and demonstrate the health of an organization’s business processes. Using ISRS gives organizations and their stakeholders’ peace of mind that their operations are safe and sustainable.”

ISRS Certification for Clinton, TN, Plant

Early in 2013, Dura-Line embarked on a safety initiative through DNV-GL called ISRS. Early in 2017, our sites began working on establishing the foundation for ISRS Certification. ISRS Edition 7 was chosen since it is the most applicable edition to general industry while including the evaluation of not only safety systems but environmental, health, and security. Level 6 certification was chosen as a target to match the level of risk in our processes.

Introduced FuturePath Figure-8 Self-Support Aerial

With FuturePath Figure-8 Self-Support Aerial, seven MicroDucts are bundled under one sheath with a messenger, so there's no need to spend time and money for strand and lash. Dura-Line’s Figure-8 standard self-support duct has been in use around the country for more than 30 years and with the launch of FuturePath Figure-8 Self-Support Aerial option, it allows for a flexible, expandable network with dedicated, easily identifiable pathways for system upgrades, redundancy, and future capacity. Not only is it a safer option for linemen because it cleans up the pole, it keeps fiber networks secure and easy to access. As an on-going revenue source, some customers have chosen to lease out the extra pathways.

Total of 20 manufacturing facilities worldwide

2012

Introduced new formulation SuperSILICORE

Dura-Line’s proprietary lubrication coextruded with the conduit products that aids in adding fiber to a conduit by reducing the friction; thereby increasing installation distances and decreasing time spent during construction. This efficiency usually results in significant savings

2012

TL 9000 Certification

Dura-Line received certification as a TL 9000 rated manufacturer. In 1998 QuEST Forum (a group of service providers, suppliers, and liaisons dedicated to Telecom industry) developed the TL 9000 Quality Management System to meet the supply chain quality requirements of the worldwide telecommunications industry.

Introduced FuturePath bundled MicroDucts

MicroDucts bundled under one sheath are called FuturePath and provide multiple ducts in one structure for future expansion of networks. It can be installed with the same tools and equipment as standard conduit.

1998

Introduced MicroDucts

MicroTechnology is a term given to given to smaller conduits and fiber used in Inside and Outside Plant Construction (ISP and OSP). MicroDucts were developed as a solution to house fiber cables that were smaller in size, but still carried significant capacity. Today, MicroCables range from 6 to 432-fiber counts. The glass fibers are the same type as those used in traditional fiber cables, only the cable design has been altered to reduce the diameter of the cable sheath and support system.

1993

Introduced Figure-8 Aerial duct

Standard Figure-8 Aerial conduit is designed with an Extra High Strength (EHS) flooded galvanized support strand for one-step aerial placement. The conduit is manufactured with carbon black and antioxidants for maximum UV protection. Figure-8 can be installed with standard aerial installation practices.
